Hey guys, sorry this is after the fact, but my Master's Degree Program has heated up! Okay, let's rehash the past 2 months:
The Harlem Knitting Circle Crocheter's got HKC involved in the Crochet Coral Reef Program created by twin sisters Margaret + Christine Wertheim from The Institute of Figuring. HKC had a preview of Margaret's NYU's presentation at the
George Bruce Branch Library, (Librarian Miranda Murray, Njoya, and Margeret examine crocheted coral reefs),
and we were so enraptured that we went DIRECTLY to the NYU Workshop to support what the sisters were doing
!
A few days later HKC was in the New York Times! http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/04/arts/design/04crochet.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
The exhibit is at the World Financial Center: THE HYPERBOLIC CROCHET CORAL REEF sponsored by the Institute For Figuring, Margaret and Christine Wertheim, Curators.
After the exhibit I recieved an invitation to be on the Brian Lehrer Show on WNYC Radio, New York Public Radio- 93.9FM/AM820/www.wnyc.org. It was an interview with Margaret, Barbra Van Elsen of the Crochet Guild, and myself about the crochet coral reef project! WNYC Radio - 93.9FM/AM820/www.wnyc.org. April 7 - August 31
7 am - 11 pm daily
WFC Winter Garden (under staircase)
"Bursting forth in a colorful, crocheted panoply of loopy "kelps", curlicue "corals," and fringy "anemones," this wooly homage to Earth's endangered coral reefs is a beautiful marriage of traditional arts & crafts and hyperbolic geometry. This exhibition, featuring The Toxic Reef (through May 18), The New York Reef, and The Chicago Reef, raises awareness about these disappearing marine treasures."
