The Coral Crochet Exhibit Premier Was Fantastic!

I WORKED ON THIS ARTICLE FOR 3 HOURS AND IT JUST FREAKING DISAPPEARED WHEN I HIT POST!  RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT I AM VERY ANGRY WITH THIS SITE!  THIS IS THIRD TIME I'VE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS SITE.

I'M  TOO DONE TO REDO RIGHT NOW..., SO JUST ENJOY THE PICTURES FROM THE NY FINANCIAL CENTER CROCHET CORAL REEF EXHIBIT!:

Lily Chin & Njoya.., that dress she made is excellent! She fell in love with the amber beaded crocheted hat I had on!  It was done by HKC member Ms. Ife Vanderpool.  Ife is wicked with beads and a crochet needle!

"Ms. Interweave" herself, Ms. Lisa Dahelin and friends at exhibit.  Lisa submitted crocheted silver wire coral reefs to the exhibit!

Njoya & HKC On The Move!

Hey guys, sorry this is after the fact, but my Master's Degree Program has heated up! Okay,  let's rehash the past 2 months:

The Harlem Knitting Circle Crocheter's got HKC involved in the Crochet Coral Reef Program created by twin sisters Margaret + Christine Wertheim from The Institute of Figuring. HKC had a preview of Margaret's NYU's presentation at theLibrarian_and_njoya_and_margaret__2  George Bruce Branch Library, (Librarian Miranda Murray, Njoya, and Margeret examine crocheted coral reefs),Hkc_coral_event and we were so enraptured that we went DIRECTLY to the NYU Workshop to support what the sisters were doingCrochet_coral_reefs1! Carols_coral_reefA few days later HKC was in the New York Times! http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/04/arts/design/04crochet.html?_r=1&oref=slogin Hkc_nyu_trip

The exhibit is at the World Financial Center: THE HYPERBOLIC CROCHET CORAL REEF sponsored by the Institute For Figuring,   Margaret and Christine Wertheim, Curators. Twin_sisters_christine_and_margeretAfter the exhibit I recieved an invitation to be on the Brian Lehrer Show on WNYC Radio, New York Public Radio- 93.9FM/AM820/www.wnyc.org.  It was an interview with Margaret, Barbra Van Elsen of the Crochet Guild, and myself about the crochet coral reef project! Coral_reef_exhibit_at_world_financi "Bursting forth in a colorful, crocheted panoply of loopy "kelps", curlicue "corals," and fringy "anemones," this wooly homage to Earth's endangered coral reefs is a beautiful marriage of traditional arts & crafts and hyperbolic geometry. This exhibition, featuring The Toxic Reef (through May 18), The New York Reef, and The Chicago Reef, raises awareness about these disappearing marine treasures."
